Circulating DNA fragments in serum, referred to as serum DNA, are released into the blood stream when cells are damaged or die. Chronix Biomedical has shown that when cancer cells die, they release unique signature DNA sequences that distinguish the cancer cell DNA from its normal cell counterpart. The detection of these unique DNA sequences allow for platforms to screen for cancer types as well as follow patient specific malignanices.
APPLICATIONS
Proof of Principle - Chronix has developed prototype blood tests for breast and prostate cancer.
Data submitted for publication demonstrates it is significantly more sensitive and more specific than mammography.
Follow-on – Chronix will partner to further develop tests for cancer, including lung, colorectal, bone marrow (myeloma) and other cancers; and it has programs scheduled and underway to develop new tests in a range of solid tumor cancers.
